The Lost Explorer: Finding Mallory on Mt. Everest by David Roberts, Conrad Anker
adventurous
informative
slow-paced
4.0
This is a behind-the-scenes look at solving the 75-year mystery behind George Mallory's disappearance while attempting to summit Mt. Everest in 1924. The chapters alternate between Mallory's life and details of all his Everest expeditions, and searching for and finding his body in 1999 (present-day at the time of writing). There are details on mountaineering gear from the 20's to dealing with news cycles at the beginning of the internet hype machine.
If you're already into the "people dying on mountains" genre, this will be a good read, and it's a decent starting point if you're looking to get into these sorts of stories for some reason.

There's a pretty detailed description of Mallory's mummified corpse, so read with caution if that sort of thing bothers you.
