If you’re looking for a casual, nothing much happens but it’s cozy and enjoyable read, I’d definitely recommend this book. And I feel you can really read this as a standalone too, as I wouldn’t per se recommend the series.
I had given up hope for this series, but continued to listen because I like to fall asleep with a book on and literally nothing happens in these books, so they were perfect for that. This book surprised me though, and I think I like this book best out of all the books in the series.
At first, I thought I was going to be really annoyed with Molly her mother and brothers as they were portrayed to really take Molly for granted and weren’t taking responsibility. But the family dynamics isn’t really a big focus of the book, so it didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would. The other family members are in the story of course, but it centers mostly around Molly and her tea garden with a few mentions/interactions with her mom/brothers.
The first three books really annoyed me as all the mc’s were really portrayed as talent- and passionless, but Molly had a passion and talent from the start and even though she was insecure about it, her underlaying love for baking really made her story much more enjoyable. Whereas the other books constantly focused on the ‘I can’t do anything’, ‘I’m just too stupid’, etc. storyline.
