Bluets by Maggie Nelson

this was a bit of an experiment for me. i don't read a lot of poetry and i don't listen to many audiobooks of books that i haven't read before, and this was both. it's read by the author herself, which is nice, but her cadence is a bit flat sometimes, and it's hard to tell when she quotes somebody else. there are some bright moments of considered observation and clever writing. most of the time, though, i felt like i was sinking slowly in an unrelenting mire of blue quicksand.

i should have known, though; i'm a green person. i shouldn't have trusted someone who stares at their own blue for that long.
