Away Laughing on a Fast Camel by Louise Rennison

“Rudeness is a poor substitute for wit.”

Not sure why I keep doing this to myself. The movie was fun and I liked the first book when I was a teenager. But it just keeps getting worse.

The teenage MC is terrible. I was plenty annoying as a teen, but at least I wasn’t fat/skinny/slut shaming literally everyone. Then there’s all the ‘omg I’m not a lezzer’ teen homophobia, like how people used to call non-cool things gay. The overdramatic ‘i’m so depressed’ moments (because a boy didn’t like her, she got over it in 3 minutes). And don’t forget bullying friends, classmates, teachers and MC stating she thinks parents are basically just purses.
