This started off slow for me, and being impatient I looked up the spoilers to see if it was worth reading. It absolutely was and I can't say that knowing the spoilers actually spoilt anything, it just gave me a different lense through which to view the story.

I loved the complexity of the writing style, though it did take me a while to adjust to it. The world building was incredibly detailed and thorough, along with the magic system.

Many of the characters were written so well, but the FMC was hard to like. There would be odd moments where the writing would switch to a strangely modern, girl-bossy style, including a scene when the FMC sticks out her tongue. She is a force to reckoned with yet this made her seem like a petulant child, not someone hardened by trauma. An odd choice, but honestly I can overlook the flaws for the fantastically laid out plot.

The book didn't end how I would have liked, but I am very much looking forward to the next book.
