Folklorn by Angela Mi Young Hur

5.0

I binged this book over the course of two days. Needless to say, it was fantastic. Contemporary fiction with a side of magic realism, this book follows Elsa, a particle physicist and daughter of Korean immigrants. Elsa's past follows her from Antarctica to Sweden, then to California, as she uncovers the folklore that inspired and haunted her late mother. Really beautiful writing and a captivating story, and a very poignant reflection on growing up as an Asian immigrant in America.
