Hello Girls by Emily Henry, Brittany Cavallaro

4.0

This book sounded so perfect. Thelma and Louise - teenage style.
Winona is an heiress to a large fortune from her maternal grandfather who is cookie king in Michigan. Her mom is gone - died of an overdose when she was little; or so they told her - and her dad is a controlling and cruel man who is also the weather man darling of the state. He hides his cruelty well and keeps up
Appearances about his perfect life with his perfect daughter in the public eye.
Lucille is from the wrong side of the tracks so to speak. Her brother is a drug dealer who steals from her. Her mother isn’t much of a parent at all.
The girls become unlikely friends one night and both are looking to escape their terrible situations. And one night… they steal Winona’s grandpa’s car and take off into the sunset. There are many adventures and mishaps along the way.
Their friendship was so endearing to me. I loved both girls. They were so different but their love for one another prevailed.
I loved the book all the until the end. The end was so disappointing to me. I guess it was realistic but also just so awful. I wanted better for them and if we couldn’t have better, then I wanted at least an epilogue about how their life turned out in the future.
A fun ride that was very quick. Would’ve been five stars if it wasn’t for that ending.
