This book was quite enjoyable, though parts of it felt a bit slow to read. The English civil war is a very complicated historical event with a lot of back and forth between winners and losers, it’s a complicated thing to retell with a narrative structure even when focusing only on a small aspect of it. The first half of the book was very compelling and making a disabled character the main protagonist is really refreshing especially within historical fiction. The writing and prose is all very classic Daphne du Maurier. An enjoyable read but definitely not her best.
