"Nothing is fair, except that we try to make it so. That's the point of humans, maybe, to fix things the gods haven't managed."
I don't know if words can quite describe exactly how charming and wonderful I found this to read. From the description alone, I knew that it was going to be a story that was definitely up my alley. It was so wonderful to find that not only was I right, but that it far exceeded my expectations! It was so refreshing to find something that read just like a fairy tale, but also so terribly rooted in the reality of the world. This was as if someone took a tale like Sleeping Beauty and made it High Fantasy. It was as charming as it was dark. As whimsical as it was concerned with real-world consequences. What an incredible way to start the year for reading!! I will definitely be looking for more books by this author.
