The Dead Are Arising: The Life of Malcolm X by Les Payne, Tamara Payne

5.0

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this biography, Les Payne and Tamara Payne used lots of interviews to provide many perspectives on the life of Malcolm X. The writing was easy to follow, I never got bored reading, but took many breaks due to the volume of the text (wish the paperback came out sooner). Ultimately, the final section on the the last years of his life was the most interesting, and provided a more in depth discussion on his assassination and the time right before and after this event. I would recommend reading this directly after reading that autobiography, as the Payne duo correct a lot of the inaccuracies, and fill the holes of Alex Haley's work. Will need to read other biographies on X still.
