No Longer Human by Junji Ito

5.0

Ito has added his own disturbing visuals to the novel by Osamu Dazai. This was a journey through the darkest side of humanity, a visceral experience that clutched my heart. Not very often is a book so disheartening that I can't bear to read it in large sittings, but this was one I had to digest in bite-sized chunks.

This story is rife with abuse, loneliness, betrayal, murder, and so much more. The accompanying illustrations were gorgeous and added so much to the experience. I can't wait to read the original source material.
