Dear John by Nicholas Sparks
5.0
Beautifully written. One of the most beautiful book that I've ever read. A bittersweet realization of what love is- I fell in love and broken to pieces all at once.
I saw the movie first before reading this book. I'm not really a fan of Nicholas Sparks for I always ended up liking the movie adaptation than his books. But with this one, I fell in love with them both, only to find out that I adored the book even more. Nicholas Spark has a magic to make his readers swoooooon with his books, specially with Dear John.
One criteria I look for in every book is- If it will move me. And it did. It made me wonder what true love is. How much it change a person?
How much you can do for love? Was John right? Or should I blame Savannah? Everything left me lost and somehow found.
The ending took me by surprise. I was leaning to the fact that it will end the same way as the movie did but it didn't, that is why this is so special. I was deeply touched with this one than I did with the The Notebook and A Walk To Remember.
Really different with Mr. Sparks other books. Actually, totally different to the ones I have read. Honestly, the ending is bothering me. Big time! I was asking, "why did it ended that way?" I was crying really hard. Literally. (emotistic am i?) I seriously don't know. And I am hoping that someone will enlighten me about it. WHY DOES IT HAS TO BE THAT WAY? I need an epiphany here.
Nonetheless, it seemed wrong but it felt right. Although it left me crying, I was happy somehow. Maybe, it really has to be that way. It doesn't need to have a happy ending to truly appreciate it. Or maybe, love does move in mysterious ways and we have to accept it that way. That we all have different thoughts about something, that if you were Savannah or John it will not be that way. And that what makes it beautiful. No matter how awful it was, no matter how much it pained you, right there, it's true love. (attached much?) I am sure this will leave me awake for the whole night.
A story about finding yourself, loving your country, appreciating your parents, living your faith, accepting reality, finding your true love, fighting for your love and knowing what love really is.
