Designing Your Work Life: How to Thrive and Change and Find Happiness at Work by Bill Burnett, Dave Evans
4.0
i enjoyed this. as someone who’s recently taken on my first office job, i think this had a lot of good info that helped me think about my life.
some good concepts to remember:
- the quality of outcome isn’t the same as the quality of decision
- make life decisions multiple choice and narrow them down
- make lists and do things with systems and order eg if you’re stressed, list everything you do and start categorising them and seeing what you can modify or delegate
- you can redesign your work life in quiet ways that work for you without making radical sudden changes
- getting a new job can come from doing lots of networking and leaning into curiosity
- don’t burn bridges when quitting
- everyone has a unique mix of expression, impact, money that works for them and you don’t have to be totally fulfilled by your paid work
