Learning to Swear in America by Katie Kennedy

4.0

"Because there’s no air in space, the asteroid hurtled toward Earth in absolute silence."

I was hooked from the first line.

The story is told by Yuri Strelnikov, a 17-year old genius with a doctorate in physics, whose mission is to help a team of American scientists stop an asteroid from destroying the Earth.

Meanwhile, Yuri meets Dovie, a quirky 16-year old girl with hippie-dippy parents and a sarcastic brother who has the best one-liners.

The characters are real and funny and endearing. Yuri, Dovie, and Lennon all deal with their own issues of loneliness and isolation, but ultimately, they realize they have each other.
