The Ten Percent Thief by Lavanya Lakshminarayan
4.0
*I received an eARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.*
This is such a fascinating and ambitious project! On it's surface, this is another dystopian book taking place in far future Bangalore (now called Apex City) that highlights the perils of social inequity and it does this very well. What's fascinating about this work is that it's a mosaic novel so the story is told almost vignette/short story style where we catch little pieces of a variety of people in this world. While I found it made it harder to become emotionally connected to each of the POV characters, it did allow for a more robust world because we got to see so many different aspects of the world and what a cool world it was.
I don't want to say much more because I think going in with little expectation helped my reading experience; however, I will say I loved how this work highlights the downsides of today's "productivity" culture. I think the thematic exploration and world are where this book shines, so I would hesitate to recommend this to plot or character driven readers.
