The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Valente
5.0
4.5 stars without question. I loved it. It whimsical, mysterious, dark, and beautifully written. In the beginning I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. It's marketed as "middle grade," but I don't know that I would let anyone under the age of 12 (or older if they're are very imaginative) read it. It has quite a few things in it that could cause nightmares. Once I realized that I was able to thoroughly enjoy it. September is a one-of-a-kind character. She's human and she's flawed, but she is also one of the more genuine characters I've come across. It's a great book for a series beginning, and I'm already wanting to read it again. I'll definitely be picking up the rest.
