2.0

I gave this book 2.0 stars because in the beginning, the prose was so fun, unique, and exciting. Definitely a great, famous first line. Hunter S.Thompson was great at creating tension and movement in a story from nothing. Unfortunately, there is little else to take away from this book other than mild amusement. In the end, the protagonist’s ridiculousness (not to mention his misogyny, racism, arrogance, etc.) wears thin and becomes formulaic. I read that this book ruminates on the decay of the American Dream. It definitely mentions the American Dream, but has nothing substantive to say about it.
