Arsene Lupin Vs. Herlock Sholmes by Maurice Leblanc

3.0

I picked up this book because the first book's Lupin vs Holmes part was brilliant and I thought that a whole book of the thing would be great. Instead, Maurice realizes that both Lupin and Holmes are basically superhuman. An unstoppable force, an immovable object and the only way to push the story forward is to dumb them down alteratively. Holmes makes rudimentary guesses that even I felt they were wrong (and were proven to be wrong) and Lupin makes silly mistakes and assumptions to be caught off guard. While the book is fun, I dont think Maurice had the capacity or the writing ability to write such a story as anything else but a Pink Panther-esque comedy instead of a thrilling mystery
