Such a Pretty Girl by Laura Wiess

4.0

a powerful story of the court's failure to protect a teenage girl raped by her father. he was supposed to be in jail until she was 18, but meredith's dad is out after serving only three years, and her insane mother has arranged for him to live in the same condo development. meredith could call her dad in for petty violations, or run away, but she knows he would only find someone else to molest. so she takes it on herself to put him back in prison.

let's talk about meredith's mom. i found it really interesting that she was so unsympathetic. that she was jealous of meredith and blamed her for ruining her marriage. in a perfect world parents would always defend their children. but the teenagers i work with have given me some real life examples where this definitely isn't true. so she's horrifying, but realistic.

i thought pauline and andy were a little creepy in their religious fervor, but it worked with the story and provided some interesting plot developments.

forgive my cliche, but i couldn't put this down. i'm looking forward to wiess' other books.
