Misrule by Heather Walter

4.0

So. Much. Betrayal.

This book hooked me in so much that I finished it in one sitting.
Its twists and turns kept me entertained, even though I couldn't help but suffer as poor Alyce dealt with an endless streak of setbacks and betrayals.
If you thought she was going through hard times in Malice, Misrule might make you rethink that.

My gut tells me that I probably liked Malice a little more than Misrule, mostly because of the place Walter had left Alyce at and how full of promise it was.
In Misrule, the ending was bittersweet and much more believable than a fairytale type of ending.
And while appreciated that, it didn't quite feel as it did the protagonist justice.

Despite the emotional rollercoaster, Misrule turned out to be a satisfying read and an apt conclusion to the duology.
