The Fledgling Handbook 101 by P.C. Cast
2.0
Having enjoyed the books in the House of Night series that I’ve read so far I couldn’t help but pick this up when I spotted it. I was a bit disappointed by it however.
There were some really interesting mini stories about the history of the vampyres and how some of their traditions started etc. I particularly like the one that included Vesuvius’ last eruption and the destruction of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
The idea of the book is that it is the exact handbook that the fledglings in the series receive when they are marked and join the House of Night. Therefore majority of the book was written just like it was aimed at the reader being a newly marked fledgling. It taught you about the vampyre symbols and traditions. However it also referred to other textbooks (which are not real) explaining that you would be able to read about some things only in later school years and future textbooks.
There were also many photos used, some presumably of real places and some of things that look so real I couldn’t decide if they actually exist, were made specifically for this book, or are just really good photoshopping.
