A new to me author, this book was donated to me and is not something that would likely have come to my attention normally.
This was beautifully written, very descriptive, and brought Bombay to life. Remy is a westernised Indian man in his 30s who has been living in the US for several years, returning to the city of his birth in the hope of starting a family and doing his duty to visit his mother. He finds she is in hospital, refusing to speak or eat, and he is dragged into more than he thought he'd signed up for.
Told over the course of just a couple of weeks, with flashbacks to his childhood, we learn more about his devoted Dad and his distant Mum, and what made them the way they were, and how Remy may need to reevaluate the meaning of family, love, and empathy
