Lore by Alexandra Bracken

4.0

Lore was a good book but fell short of being a great book due to its predictability. The premise of the novel, essentially a hunger games for the gods every 7 years, is very fascinating, and the author did a good job of weaving the mythos around this “god hunt” into a modern world layered with modern understanding. The feminist undertones were a really nice touch, and I think essential for a book that takes place in a world that glorifies male leaders/warriors and subjugates it’s women. I also loved the fact that there was no “chosen one” trope (or at least that it wasn’t as on-the-nose); Lore is just a girl in the right place at the wrong time and she realizes she has to do something to end the vicious cycle.
