Beautiful Thing: Inside the Secret World of Bombay's Dance Bars by Sonia Faleiro

3.0

Leela's life story is compelling (and incredibly sad), and I think that is what kept me reading; the writing itself was inconsistent and the author uses Hindi heavily throughout, making for confusing passages at times. This book gives you a window into the lives of not just Leela but many people in the "underworld"--criminals, drug dealers, pimps, etc. and also a window into the poverty and desperation at the root of it all.
