Thanks for the Trouble by Tommy Wallach

4.0

Part I, Wherein I Briefly Opine & Evaluate

What a relief it is to learn that Tommy Wallach is not a one-hit wonder. In fact, this book is arguably better (more complex; experimental, yet not inaccessible or overtly bizarre; a better sense of closure) than We All Looked up.

It may have been because of the many interruptions I had to contend with, but in spite of the admirable writing the story seemed to lag a tad in the middle. Still, the mention of my favorite movie and my long beloved songwriter/poet delighted me enough to call it a 4-4.5. (Ha! Read this book to find out what and who!)

Part II, Wherein I List Much Enjoyed Quotations from the Novel

"You can really only enjoy something if it leaves you wanting more, don't you think?" (125)

"Love is the exception to the law of diminishing returns" (181-182).

"People don't like getting older, but they do like changing. Staying the same is a kind of death" (186).

"Love is nothing more than a fortuitous collision of circumstances" (197).

"Only boxers and junkies wear their scars where people can see them" (230).
