The Weight Of Blood is worth all the accolades it's received.
Author Tiffany D. Jackson has taken Stephen King's first novel Carrie, and reimagined it for modern-day.
The result is heartbreaking, chilling, and relevant.
It's 2014, and the small town of Springville still has segregated proms for it's Black and white high school students. Societal racism is the town's fabric, and fostered in all of it's generations.
Maddy Washington has been sheltered by her overbearing Papa throughout her life, and steps out of her comfort zone to attend the first "All-Together" prom with football star Kenny Scott.
Carrie is my favourite King book, and The Weight Of Blood is faithful to important elements of the source material, though it's also a unique story with it's own differing themes.
While I think the book would be more fully enjoyed by those familiar with the original story, it can definitely be appreciated by anyone.
