Split Tooth by Tanya Tagaq

3.0

TW/CW: sexual assault, pedophilia, death of family member, childbirth, sexual content, death ideation, suicide ideation, dissociation

The good: This book and the stories it tells clearly come from a deeply personal part of the author's mind and life. It is visceral, disturbing, and at times so relatable it hurts. Tagaq has a beautiful way with imagery. Although I didn't personally understand some of the author's experiences beyond empathetically, I could tell how deeply some of these things haunt and morph their life and choices.

The bad: Unfortunately the biggest negative for me was the triggers above. An author doesn't owe their reader warnings, but I feel like reviews do not talk often enough about the content of this book. This is a dark, moving book that left me feeling wounded, but fulfilled.
