Delightful. When I sat down to write this review, “delightful” was the only word I could think of to describe “Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries”. I absolutely adored reading this book and I imagine at points I was grinning like an idiot while reading.
Set in 1909, we follow Emily Wilde, a researcher of faeries out of Cambridge University, through her journal entries as she sets out to a distant land to finish research for an encyclopedia of fairies she is writing. While there she befriends the local town folk and receives an unexpected visitor; a colleague of hers, Wendell, who she has long suspected of being a faerie himself.
While this book is obviously fantasy, unless you believe in faeries of course, it is pretty light fantasy and I just loved the relationships formed and I LOVED Emily Wilde. She is a wonderful narrator and her banter with Wendell had me chuckling out loud at times.
I was extremely excited to hear this series will continue!
