The Governess Game by Tessa Dare

2.0

I don't know why, but this second volume of Girl Meets Duke just lacked a certain spark for me. I wanted to enjoy the romance, but I found the characters to be just a little underdeveloped, a collection of typical romance tropes with some added features rather than believable protagonists. I liked the secondary characters best, but their storylines were not quite enough to keep me engaged.

Oddly enough, I feel like the novel made the same mistake the male protagonist did, diving into physical intimacy to substitute for emotion. The story over-relied on sexual attraction to sell the pairing, but the chemistry just didn't quite work well enough for me to make it believable.
