Death Comes To Pemberley by P.D. James

1.0

Death Comes to Pemberley? Death Comes to Me Death by Boredom.

Where was the sparkle of Pride and Prejudice? Elizabeth's striking wit? The devotion between Darcy and Elizabeth? Where was the bright personalities which made Pride and Prejudice one of our best loved classics?

The dialogue was sparse and uninteresting, the characters had less personality than a dead fish and the plot was entirely lacking in both excitement and thrills.

If you are going to use established and well-known characters such as these then you have to capture the spark and brilliance that made them as loved in the first place. Instead I felt as though the characters were used for no other reason than to draw fans of Pride and Prejudice to this novel.

Darcy and Elizabeth have lived on because we felt what they felt, we fell in love as they did. Rather than show us how in love Darcy and Elizabeth are, or Charles Bingley and Jane, we are just told that they are happy, in an entirely flat and undeveloped way.

Definitely not a good read.
