A Sweet Mess by Jayci Lee

Despite this being the first in the series, I ended up reading this after the sequel — but it didn’t make too much of a difference for me. I sometimes I enjoy doing this because it gives me a chance to see where the characters I’ve already fallen in love with started from (or to explore other side characters I’ve met!).

In this one, Aubrey is a baker in her small town, and she loves everything about it. She plans to expand her bakery — but when a mixup at her shop results in a scathing review, all of her dreams are on hold as she scrambles to regain the reputation she had spent years cultivating.

Landon refuses to print a correction or a retraction for his review, but recognizes that he may have made a mistake that cost a great baker far more than he was willing to sacrifice with his review. Attempting to make amends, Landon arranges for Audrey to save her business by appearing on a baker show. While she’s sure it’ll be a disaster, she isn’t sure what other choice she has.

This book was cute — and filled with sweets. An enemies to lovers, proximity romance, I loved the strength behind Aubrey’s character — and I loved the growth we witness in Landon.
