For me, this book has an unbearable amount of dramatic irony. It also gets a bit too ambitious in its scope, and includes many side stories that just stop. From a historical perspective, it ends at an awkward juncture.

But Hammad’s gorgeous, sweeping language largely compensates for my gripes. She knows wtf she’s doing and I was more or less happy to get out of the way and let this enormous story roll through me. Can’t wait to read more from her.
