This is a fantastic short piece. It is definitely a good setup for things to come. Reading it felt very much like a pilot episode for a tv series. There is a lot of good character introduction and hooks, but the plot for this first piece is very straightforward. I expect that the future episodes will crank up the complexity quite a bit.
