The Night and Its Moon by Piper C.J.
4.0
Honestly, I was a little nervous to read this book after all the back and forth there’s been about it online. I know what Piper did wasn’t right, but I also know she apologized and took responsibility, so I decided to start this book as unbiased as possible.
Overall, I would say I’m impressed with it. There were quite a few errors in the grammar and writing and there were moments when I would get lost or confused in the plot, but I did thoroughly enjoy reading it. I think that there wasn’t a lot of segwey from childhood friends to being in love, but hey love can be messy and confusing. There were times when I could tell this was amateur writing, but this is a debut novel and there are bound to be kinks when you’re just starting out. Could some of it have been avoided? Sure, but I also understand how exciting it could be to get your story out into the world. I have read many books, but have never written one myself. The fact that she wrote these all so fast is an impressive feat in and of itself.
Being a part of the group myself, I felt especially seen when it came to the bisexual theme the book entails. It isn’t a theme you find all too often in fantasy books and one I would definitely like to see more of. You could tell she threw her experiences and feelings into this story and it’s characters and I loved being apart of it. I actually really enjoy backstories (they’re my favorite part of every book) and I loved how in depth this one got. I feel like it made me ready and prepared for how the characters will grow throughout the series. I also think this first book ended at the perfect spot for me to be excited to move on to the next one.
Is this book going to be everyone’s cup of tea? Probably not.
Could this book use a bit more editing?
Definitely
But I really did enjoy the heart and the story in it and I’m excited to see how the series continues.
