See Me Not by Janelle Harris

2.0

The writing is okay. The story is okay. It's just that I couldn't bring myself to care about what happens to these characters.

Emma is struggling with anxiety and depression, so I don't like to judge the character. But I can't sympathize with her. She blows off her friend, best friend and others who try to help her and makes things difficult for them. She drives dangerously. She shows up to work as a Kindergarten teacher hung over and has to be sent home.
There really is no good idea of who she is- her likes, dislikes, etc. Her only hobby seems to be excessive drinking.

Her husband is kind of a sniveller who is also gullible. He is absorbed with his own problems and so doesn't care when Emma shares she is being stalked. Who cares about their wife's stalker? Not this guy! He also looks down on workmates and resents Emma's friends who are trying to help her.

Amber is the scum of the earth. Other characters range from annoying to horrible.

The only really good character is killed off almost immediately.
So I didn't get all the way through it. I realized I didn't care. I'd be willing to read a book by this author in the future if she can present me with characters I can be invested in.
