Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner

dark emotional funny hopeful inspiring reflective sad medium-paced

4.75

As the only child of a non-“mommy”-mom, I appreciated Michelle’s perspective and her many poignant takes on her ownmother-daughter relationship. While the story is deeply sad, as grief is, Zauner also manages to share so many funny/happy glimmers that make this such a joy to read. I love imagining Chongmi with her foot on god’s neck demanding some karmic justice for her daughter. Thank you for sharing your story with us Michelle. I am better for it. (Knocking off a quarter star because Zauner said her husband is out of her league which is just objectively false- they are both hot).
