Heart Unbroken by Casey Cox

4.25

There’s shirtless men on book covers, then there’s two men meeting while one is naked and tackled to the ground…isn’t that an unexpected meet-cute?

But seriously, a second chance romance between two guys in their 40s…meeting in paradise for a weekend, feeling a super connection but not considering meeting each other ever again. After all, they do live on opposite sides of the country with jobs that demand their whole time and attention. Five years later, in the middle of very unfortunate circumstances, they may have a chance to explore the connection they both felt all those years before.

I’ve been reading a lot of Casey Cox’s books since December, so I was delighted to read an eARC of this one and it did not disappoint. This book was super sweet and had one of the things I like the most about Casey’s stories: communicating and expressing one’s feelings. Really y’all, is there anything better than seeing people talking about how they feel and avoiding miscommunication? (I hate miscommunication) I say it’s beautiful.

I love how Rove and Leo were there for each other during their difficult times. Both of there were going through life changing situations during their time together and each of them was there to support and hold each other together. Their story is beautiful, sweet and heartwarming, and I really recommend the read.

Another thing that I really enjoyed here was the friendships. Both Rove and Leo have best friends that are family to them and y’all know how I feel about found family. Also, Leo’s work on the resort  (and his dreams) creating a safe space for people to be themselves (but also Josiah, Rove’s best friend, with his centers for homeless LGBT youth). We all know that a lot of queer people are not safe to be themselves where they live, being that because of their families, communities, government or anything else, so seeing this brought up was good and sort of gives a little hope.
