3.75

For the first 280 pages of this book, it was easily a five star read. As someone who loves the movie and enjoys horror those first 280 pages were perfect. There was gore, sure, but it added to Bateman’s insanity. It worked, the plot flowed together.
Then it keeps going. For another hundred pages. The book becomes harder to follow as Bateman becomes further disconnected from reality. The gore becomes more intense and frequent. And I understand why Bret Easton Ellis decided to do that but it just ruins the pacing of the book and parts of it are honestly impossible to read. Much of those last 100 pages made me feel so vile that I cannot physically give this book higher than 3.75 despite the fact that I did really enjoy it overall.
