Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

i went into this book very angry i had to read it in the first place when it was about chaol and not what just fucking blew up in empire of storms.. like it's almost the standard to hate sjm for putting this book where she did

but it brings so much color and information to everything that happened in the book prior that you really can't just skip right over it (despite how badly i wanted to) like that absolute skank whore of a being maeve turning out to be a fucking valg queen ??? fuck me gently with a chainsaw HUH. i hate sjm.

YRENE !!!! infinite amount of love for her. wow. i thought she was kind of cutesy in the beginning + her interaction with aelin being one of my favs from assassin's blade but by the end i adored her even more somehow.

she is SO fucking good for chaol. like i genuinely could not be happier with who he ends up with. AND AS HIS WIFE?? so many of sjm's characters secretly elope LMFAO. but i'm an absolute slut for a man who can't stop referring to his wife as her new surname. it's so cute

i knew in my soul once she started the horrid process of healing him that SOMETHING would blossom between them solely because you can't fight & meddle through that much emotional trauma together without forming some kind of connection.. y'know? and the two of them just balanced each other so well in every way beyond that. ugh. for sure one of my fav tog couples til the day i die.

now, i stand very high on the pedestal of people who will defend chaol forever .. but guys, c'mon .. this book did him SO well. he has matured from his weirdly strong, not always right morals and accepted the fact that his life is altering for the better. plus his injury made him look at life entirely differently and i so love that for him. the cute moment he had with shen after realizing that the man had a metal arm almost made me tear up fr.

so i actually hated nesryn for the majority of the book and was practically counting down the pages until i was out of her point of view.. BUT i did absolutely adore the relationship she formed with sartaq by the end of the book. like this absolute sweetie just offered her an entire kingdom?? and it's so so fitting he won heir. i agree.
