This book feels like a romantasy spoof. It was almost like someone wrote a list of lines and tropes and they were being check off as they were written into the book in order.
Idk. I can tell when I’m not super into a book when it takes me a long time to finish it. Even though I had this as an audiobook, I still finished it under the threat of the book going back Libby in 3 hours.
So, the romance seemed inorganic. It was like, “we met. He’s hot. We’re in love.” The MMC was all quippy comebacks and standard, “touch her and you die,” remixes. Like ad nauseam.
Let’s not forget that the FMC has 5 dragons. Five dragons! So OD! Is it because Violet Sorrengail has 2? Who needs 5 dragons?! Then at the very end Elowen becomes a dragon rider. Lol and they add a hasty marriage of convenience by having some weird clause that if Cayden marries a royal and challenges the throne he gets to be king. It was so convoluted.
Anyway it’s over and I’m def not going back there again.
