While I enjoyed this book, I definitely liked Black Sun better. I think a big reason that I liked this book less was because I can tell that it's a set up for what's going to happen in the rest of the series. Not much happens, plot-wise, but we do learn character's motivations, movements, and future plans. The reader is carried through the camps of the Sun priest, the Crow clans meetings, and taken along on Xiala's adventures with the Priest of Knives. The novel ends with a deep sense of foreboding. We know what's coming and we know it's going to be brutal. I can't wait to see what happens next but I can't help but wish that we got a little less of the planning & motivations so we could focus on plot. However, one of the things I really like about these books are how character driven they are. So, for me, it was still quite enjoyable while also making me excited to see where the next book takes us & how all these plans come out!
