A Raisin in the Sun: The Unfilmed Original Screenplay by Lorraine Hansberry, Robert A. Nemiroff, Margaret B. Wilkerson, Spike Lee

5.0

I knew the basics of this story - housing discrimination in Chicago, loosely based on Hansberry’s own family experiences in Woodlawn. I expected powerful drama and history but I didn’t expect it to be so funny. I laughed out loud so many times, and Hansberry’s deft skill at writing family dynamics and all the triumph, tragedy and comedy that goes with that was incredible. I’m sorry I sat on this for so long but I’m really happy I finally read it.
