i have mixed feelings
Shanghai Girls started off really strong for me. i was drawn into the story and appreciating the historical context, learning about the political landscape of China in the late 1930s, and later on in the novel, learning about the relationship between China and america and the impact the fear of communism had on the individual lives of Chinese americans, all the racist antics of white americans
but from about halfway through on i felt the novel lacked a true plot. and the way Lisa See tries to wrap things up felt very predictable and unoriginal. i was getting a bit bored
this is only the second Lisa See novel i’ve read and i will definitely be reading more. this just wasn’t the strongest for me
