I like Orwell. I really really do. I just don't think this is a (literally speaking) good book. It's great from historical perspective, it was very important to write a commentary like that at the time but it's just... Very bland, and simplistic. I would propably reccomed it to begginers in literature from that time and to readers who are just begging to read Orwell's books.

My favourite quote from this book comes from Orwell's original (unpublished) preface:
„For all I know by the time this book is published my view of the Soviet regime may be the generally accepted one. But what use would that be in itself? To exchange one orthodoxy for another is not necessarily an advance. The enemy is the gramophone mind, whether or not one agrees with the record that is being played at the moment.“
