A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers
3.0
OK so this one was really hard to do a review for because I'm very split. I really like the overall message, ending, and direction of the story but I was having a lot of issues with some of the dialogue and pacing. Specifically with sibling dex there were so many instances where I felt like they were coming across as unbelievably frustrated and annoyed when it didn't fit. There were times when they were coming off as unbelievably rude to Mosscap specifically. Now I did listen to the audiobook so it might be an error in tone but it's some thing I noticed because it happened multiple times. There were a few different instances where I had to pause the story and relisten to make sure I was understanding the tone conveyed.
That being said though I really did like the direction of the story as well as the direction the author took with the message. From the beginning this wasn't meant to be a story with easy answers or a clear cut ending. We got a lot more growth and detail with the moss cap, which I appreciated.
In the end I kind of split the difference and went with three stars as there were some things I really liked but there are also some things that I didn't.
