This is my least favorite Ali Hazelwood book that I’ve read. My list goes Bride, Love, Theoretically, Check and Mate and then this one. And the space between Check and Mate and this one is very very wide.
Did I consume this book in 2 days? Yes. Did I go on the emotional rides with the characters? Also yes. But for a genius, Bee was kind of dumb and that whole thing at the end with Guy really jumped the shark for me. What was even happening there? I knew the broad strokes of what was going to happen there, but the way it happened was too unbelievable. My belief was already very suspended to imagine that Bee was a functional person, but that scene was asking for too much.
Also! This book took way too long for the MCs to get together to still somehow fit in a third act breakup. They broke up in the last 10% of the book. Seriously, why was that necessary?
Overall I felt the feelings, and am happy to have read it. But unlike the other 3 I’ve read, this one is not in danger of a reread.
