The Emerald Sea by Richelle Mead

4.0

I really enjoyed this final installation in Richelle Mead's The Glittering Court series. Tamsin was an extremely interesting character, and I had been looking forward to seeing what happened when the ship she was on went missing. Learning what was driving her to become the diamond was amazing too, because she wasn't really looking to better her own life, but to better her family's lives. She grew up as a laundress and had plans to take care of her family with her newfound wealth once she got married. Tamsin clearly cares deeply about her family, particularly Merry,

who suffers from a medical issue and requires a special medication. She strives to be the diamond, or at the very least in the top 3, so that she can get the best picks for a husband. Even while struggling after a shipwreck, Tamsin keeps her eyes on the prize -- until a trader with mismatched eyes catches her attention. The book was so interesting, seeing the struggle that Tamsin and the other girls go through after going so far off course.

Not too many issues with this book - although I think Merry's vocabulary was a bit too extensive for a 3-4 y/o girl - the way she spoke made me believe she was at least 6. That was my biggest issue with the book.

If I had to rank the 3 books, I think this would be my second favorite. Midnight Jewel would be my first, and The Glittering Court would be my least favorite. It's also been so long since I've read the other two that I forgot about some aspects of the other novels, but that just means I'll need to reread the series at some point!
