The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka

4.0

Super interesting, very weird.

Gregor, the sole provider for his parents and sister, wakes up one morning having turned into a large beetle. There is fall out as he becomes less human mentally in addition to his physical metamorphosis, and his family has to pick up their lives to support themselves. He learns both that he missed his family’s closeness with his busy work, and also that he saved them from their burdens. Ultimately, Gregor dies and his family is freed from the burden of caring for and hiding him. Though he was a burden, the time in which they had to care for him and learn to provide for themselves taught them to work hard, and brought them together as a family.
