Goldie Vance, Vol. 2 by Hope Larson

2.0

So, this episode lets the reader know that we're in 1963.
I think I kind of hoped this was an alt-universe thing but it's not. It's 1963 Florida.

I wasn't nearly so charmed by this volume as I had been the first. The art is far more rushed-looking and not so expressive. Some of it was downright wonky.
And the story.
We've got this in our young adult section but it's totally suitable for 10- to 12-year-olds.

This installment has an astronaut washing up on shore but inside the suit is a teenage beauty queen. What's going on?
Goldie and her BFF, Cher, have a fight and Goldie sees Cher driving off with the beauty queen astronaut even though Cher doesn't have a car or a driver's license.
What's going on?

Silliness and improbability. That is what's going on.
It's still cute and I still love that everyone comes in all colors and sizes but, story-wise and picture-wise, this one just didn't do it for me.
