Blue Is the Warmest Color by Jul Maroh

3.0

The best line in this graphic novel is: "Only love will save the world. Why would I be ashamed to love?"
I am rating this a three star not because of graphic or story quality- but because the content was a hard read for me on an emotional level. It is a very dark story, with a dark and sadly realistic ending.
My advice if choosing to pick this up as a read is to be aware that it hits many triggers going in, and satisfies none of the 'complete' or 'warm' feeling I search for in my favorite literary creations.
That said, this should be a cry to the world to stop being such harsh critics of love. This highlights a harsh reality LGBTQ+ kids face for being 'different', and still, no matter how many times I am faced with this reality, it makes it no easier to stomach.
